Did we mention that we finished 8th ! (up from 25th in 2009). We are all so thrilled. Tis is our club's first time in the Top 10 at Metros. It was a big team effort with 5 swimmers winning 12 medals and a total of 12 swimmers swimming another 30 top 10 placings. The meet had a 61% PB rate.
Jake Baggaley won 2 Gold and 3 Slver medals, broke 3 Metropolitan records and swam another 2 top ten swims.. Andrew Kennedy broke 1 metro record and won 2 Gold and 2 Bronze medals and swam another 4 top 10 finishes. Chris Hoare won Gold in the 100 free with a huge PB swim. Metro debutante Rupert amazed us all with a scintillating swim out of a lower heat which won him a Bronze in the 100m Backstroke. Rupert was also 4th in the 100 Breast. Joel Walker won a Bronze in the 100 Fly and acheived another 5 top 10 placings.
Top 10 finishes were acheived by Matt (7/8 swims) and also a Metro record in the 17 yrs Boys 50 Fly, Nicholas (2/2), Jake G (3/3), Bec (1), John (2), Elise (1), Jarrod B (1) and Marcus (1).
Whilst all of the above data explains how we made it into the Top 10 the real story is in the team effort behind it. There were so many sensational swims that have shaken up the NCAQ record books. Sunday afternoon's Butterfly swims were a great show of character from our kids. We knew we needed big PB swims to get those top 10 finishes and nearly every swimmer in those late afternoon swims swam at least a 3 sec PB in their 100 Fly. Tyler actually swam a 5 sec PB. The support in the stands was tremendous and that is what makes swimming at NC a team sport.
From our newbie Metro qualifiers to our veterans we thank you for representing us in such an outstandng manner
